I Could Still Be Dreaming This
Experimental, 11′, color, digital, 2026.
The environmental crisis is more invisible than ever. Not only because it’s a hyperobject, too vast and complex to visualize, but mostly because we are too tired to look at it. I could still be dreaming this (dir. Maria Serralvo) is a desktop film that takles this problem from an ecocritical approach.

TonyMif, a user of the video game Farming Simulator, streams daily on Twitch, sleeping just two hours between his shift at a supermarket and his streaming session. Amidst the digital noise of the internet scroll, this game rises as a peaceful oasis where he can momentarily forget his precarity. However, what might initially look like an escape from capitalism and a reconnection with the natural environment ultimately turns out to be a virtual replica of market logic, creating an illusion of ownership and mastery through the commodification of nature. As the environmental crisis escalates in the real world, TonyMif (and the narrator) are too tired to face it and surrender, once again, to virtual escapism.
